Gravity bends light of distant galaxy into a ring
Last year, using the ALMA telescopes, astronomers made this strange photo of a very distant galaxy. The distant galaxy in this image is not ring-shaped at all, it has been distorted by a cosmic lens which has bent the light of the distant galaxy into a ring. This is similar to the way your reflection is distorted by the curved shape of a spoon.
